Lares and Penates
Polish Pavilion 2025. Building a Sense of Security in Architecture.

The exhibition created by Aleksandra Kędziorek, Maciej Siuda, Katarzyna Przezwańska and Krzysztof Maniak ties in to the tradition of approaching architecture as shelter from dangers, including the elements, disasters and wars. The creators of the design investigate if architecture has the tools to build a safe reality.

‘Lares and Penates are deities that kept watch over the homestead in Ancient Rome’, says Aleksandra. ‘They are recalled as a guarantor of household security in many languages, and so we draw from them as a universal code of sorts, derived from ancient tradition’.

Through thoughtful design, architecture can provide shelter from natural elements, enhance resilience to climate change, support mental and physical well-being, and foster social cohesion.
